Restoring a 7 Litre is not too difficult given the shared components with the rest of the Galaxie line, including 1965 and later years.
The emblems can be troublesome to find and locating NOS is almost impossible. Of particular difficulty is the lens over the rear console light. Bright finish wheel well openings are rare too, especially in NOS. The emblems for a 7 Litre can be located with diligence, the trunk emblem is especially difficult, but emblems have been available in reproduction form.
It seems the sun was particularly hard on the wood-style steering wheel and the top part of the dash. The wood grained plastic on the steering wheel is subject to shrinkage and the dash typically breaks at the speaker grill. The wood type steering wheel was shared with the Mustang with the hub itself being different. Because of the popularity of Mustangs the wood type steering wheel can be re-finished and there are dash board re-finishing services available too.
Of special interest are bucket seat equipped cars (XL and 7 Litres) with power windows. The electric window switches on these cars are on the console instead of the door panels. To install power windows on an XL or 7 Litre would require a console cover with the holes for the 4 window switches. The front door panels on these models are blank and do not have any means of raising and lowering the windows. A switch is on each side of the back seat for the rear window on that side.
