Tuesday morning rope making.
"Rush Minute" in my town
is caused by
two pickup trucks at the
same stop sign.
Impromptu rope walk set

by my office.
I can usually catch a few
volunteer rope makers
on the way to the local
bank.
Three hook hand made
rope
machine.
Made from saw mill rough
cut oak.
Rope winch board fits into

which wil become twisted
into one rope.

Long ago, I made a much
larger
4 hook rope machine that
I prefer to use for
(thick) hefty tow ropes
Three hook hand made
rope
machine
strung with sisal binder
twine.
This sisal binder twine is
approximately
105 pound tensile strength.
eight (8) yarns of twine
yarn per strand/ ply (hook) Yield
a twenty-four yarn rope.
I also made a second
sisal
twenty-four yarn rope,
but with 6 yarns of twine
per strand on a 4 strand rope.
The 24 yarn 4
strand
rope is noticeably thinner,
about 5/6 the diameter of
the 3 strand rope
( yet it is longer
than the 24 yarn 3 strand rope
In both examples, I
started with 22 feet
of strung
twine.
The finished 24 yarn 3 strand rope
was 15.5 feet long, while
the finished
24 yarn 4 strand
rope was 17.0 feet
long.
The 24 yarn/ 3 strand rope
was Shorter and Thicker.
The 24 yarn/ 4 strand rope
was Longer and Thinner.
"Bitter end"
of partially made rope is
put on a 2nd crank
to hold the rope stretched
out taunt.
I like to twist the
individual
plies tight,
just below the point that
they would start to "kink"
before allowing them to
twist
together into one.
Wouldn't you know, my rope tool is backwards for the photo!
