Our letterhead declares that First Reformed Church is an historic congregation with a contemporary spirit.  Some find us and grow with us and others are here for a while then need to move onward.  Whether you are a seasoned member, a searching visitor or a traveler along life's way, we welcome all who gather here this morning.  Today is our Heritage Day and we particularly welcome the 45 members who have steadied this congregation for the long haul.  They are our Golden Club.  May you find your niche among us today.

Today's Worship Broadcast over KIOW FM 107.3, simulcast on WCTA Cable channel 2 and broadcast world-wide at www.kiow.com is in memory of Ubbie Harms on his birthday by his family.

Our Sunday Church School continues this morning for all boys and girls from 4 years of age through Confirmation.  Each adult who encourages Sunday School participation plants a seed for that child that by God's grace will grow into a harvest of a faithful life.

Dorcas Circle will meet at 2 PM on Monday the 21st instead of 7 PM. Please note the time change

Each Sunday we share a FELLOWSHIP HOUR following worship in the narthex classroom.  Today's fellowship hour is a reception lunch honoring the 45 members of our Golden Club who have been communicant members of this church for 50 years or more.  All are invited to join us without charge for a pork loin sandwich, salad and drink following worship and also following Sunday School

Prayer Matters: Please uphold in prayer our known ill: Charlotte (Jutting) Norstrud; Karissa Rasch, Karen Kiewiet, Tanya Kiel, Shirley Hagenson, Nancy Steen, Anna Heyer, Lena Harms, and Virginia Wessels.

Birthday and Anniversary Best Wishes are extended this week to Chris Howell, John & Sher Blomster (today), Peg Mastin (Tuesday), Dorothy Gruis (Wednesday), Roy & Emma Hinz (Thursday), Pastor Bill (Saturday).

Bulletin Announcements due to Pastor Bill for Sunday

Our GOLDEN CLUB becomes active after too long a hiatus this morning.  Forty-five members of First Reformed Church have each carried the ministry of our church for fifty or more years.  Our longest serving member is Lena Harms who professed faith in 1930 – 78 years ago!  Our newest member is Crystal Johnson who professed faith in 1958 – 50 years ago!  Congratulations to all our Golden Club members and thank you for carrying the torch of faith before the rest of us were here!  A list of all our Golden Club members may be found in the bulletin insert of this week's bulletin.

LAST WEEK'S OFFERING was $897.01 ($1,127.00 last year), with an attendance of 103 persons (122 persons last year). Our average attendance this year is 106 persons in worship weekly (82 persons last year). Based upon a 2008 budget of $98,071, we need to raise $78,061.90 by year's end.

Our twice monthly COME-ALONGS will be held this coming Thursday with a coffee hour shared in the fellowship hall.  Activities begin at 2:30 PM and everyone is invited to “come along”!  Bring a friend, a dessert to share – drink is provided.

Pastor Bill is continuing to receive expressions of interest in a 6 week long SUMMER STUDY focused on “The Will of God”.  What is God's will?  How can we know it for our lives?  How can we know what is NOT God's will?  This class is open to everyone who has ever struggled with these sticky questions.  A workbook is available for this class based upon the Christian classic, “The Will of God” by Leslie Weatherhead, a pastor in England during the horrible days of World War II.  The text of the sermons Weatherhead preached will form our lessons with updated examples.  If you are interested in this class – to begin after planting season – a sign-up list is posted on the narthex bulletin board.  The invitation will be extended to the entire community this week.

A second special offering will be received for the support of our COMMUNITY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL next Sunday, April 27.  Costs for the materials continue to rise but our registration fees are remaining stable.  We don't want anyone to stay away because of finances – so all the cooperating churches in Buffalo Center will receive a special offering on this day to make another great year of VBS a reality.  Sign up lists for teachers, helpers and others is posted in the narthex along with requests for cookies, bars and snacks (cheese and cut veggies are very popular with the children...and healthy too!).

We have recently received a note from Ken Vander Schaaf, son of the Rev. Henry Vander Schaaf.  Rev. Vander Schaaf will be celebrating his 90th birthday. An open house reception is scheduled for May 24 in Holland, Michigan.  He would love to hear from you who remember him.  Cards and letters may be sent to Rev. Henry Vander Schaaf at 142 Cypress Ave., Holland, MI 49423.  His phone number is 616-396-8174.  Ken's letter is posted on the narthex bulletin board.

Hospice of North Iowa invites you to their ANNUAL TIME OF REMEMBRANCE.  The program consists of readings, music, and a time for family and friends to remember loved ones.  It is also an opportunity for all of us to share comfort and hope.  You are invited to participate on Monday, April 28 at the TSB Community Room at 101 Hwy 69 N in Forest City at 5:30 PM.  A light supper will follow.  At this event you will have the opportunity to sign a piece of fabric that will be sewn together for the 2008 memorial quilt.  Quilts from past years will be on display.

Fun, adventure, worship, new friends, and much more is waiting for you this summer. Summer will be here soon and you don’t want to miss this opportunity! There are camps for all ages—elementary to adults. For a camp brochure: check the narthex literature wrack or  download one from our website at www.lakeviewconference.com, or call us at (641) 628-2160. Hurry and sign up before May 1 to take advantage of the Early Bird Registration!

The 12 heavy mirrors used on the tables in the fellowship hall for decorations are missing. If you know where they are please contact Marilyn Balance. Thank you!

Time passes so quickly that we dare not forget from whence we have come.  Personally, professionally, spiritually, educationally – all of us benefit from those who have gone this way before us.  In 2008, First Reformed Church celebrates 115 years of witness and ministry in Buffalo Center.  From this congregation's humble beginnings among East Friesian immigrants who met on the 2nd floor of a Main Street business for worship and prayer, we have become a congregation that has Americanized and expanded its witness throughout the region and world through our current worship broadcast.  We currently have forty-five members whose membership at First Reformed Church has spanned fifty years.  If we totaled all the years of service of each of these 45 individuals, we have 2,623 years of Christian service! We thank each Golden Club honoree as we honor you today.  Our honorees are:
