Tressie F. (Bruns) Beenken

December 22, 1916 - May 12, 2005


Tressie F. (Bruns) Beenken, the daughter of Bruno and Engelena (Troff) Bruns, was born on December 22, 1916. She attended rural school near Woden, Iowa and was confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Woden. She worked as a telephone operator in Buffalo Center, and did house cleaning for several families in Buffalo Center.

On March 14, 1946, Tressie was united in marriage with Dick Beenken at her parents' home in Buffalo Center. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Joyce and Dean. The couple farmed north of Titonka until 1958, when they moved to a farm near Rake, Iowa. Dick passed away in June, 1976. Tressie then moved to her present home in Buffalo Center. Tressie was a resident of the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, where she passed away May 12.

Tressie was a member of the First Reformed Church, being active in the RCWM and Dorcas Circle. She was also a member of the Koffee Kup Klub. Tressie had a lifetime gift for making crafts, crocheting doilies and crocheting dolls. She also enjoyed her job working at the Timely Mission Nursing Home where she met many good friends.

Her family was very important to her, and she always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Tressie is survived by her children, Joyce Anderson and her husband, Ronald, and Dean Beenken, all of Buffalo Center; four grandchildren, Kristin Reese and her husband, Mark of Nashville TN, Amy Rasch and her husband, Corey of Bancroft, Darren Beenken of Buffalo Center and Jared Beenken of Buffalo Center four great grandchildren, Karissa and Caleb Rasch and Zander and Caden Reese; a sister-in-law, Francis Bruns of Britt; a brother-in-law, Harold Beenken of Titonka; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; daughter-in-law, Julie Beenken; six sisters and three brothers.
